Student Feedback

Former WLE Students

I studied the Chinese Business and Language Program. Tuition was good, I liked the submersion into the culture. In the U.S after the class you can only speak English, but here in China you can use your Chinese language skills in practice. So studying here is much more than just sitting in the classes. The teachers are excellent, so is my language partner. The business lessons are very lightening and the fieldtrips to joint ventures are interesting! The WLE staff is great, at times it would have been very difficult and stressful without them.(Pictured reading at WLE's Library).

Kevin Lloyd, USA Student, University of Georgia

Living so far away from home, the notion of family takes on an entirely new meaning. Providing a soft-landing, support, and security, WLE offers its students opportunities to stretch themselves to explore, to experience and to engage China. Going before me, WLE served to soften my landing in Beijing; a potentially confusing and overwhelming experience, for even the most seasoned traveler. Beyond that, the extent to which they smoothed out my path in China became clear only upon hearing the apocryphal stories of application and registration nightmares told by non-WLE foreign students. Standing behind me, WLE offered me support for everything I wanted to do and needed to get done.

Timothy Radcliffe Winnipeg, Canada, Student, Queens University

I thought the WLE program offered an ideal mix of exactly what I was looking for: a way to improve my Chinese while experiencing China. The classes at the Academy were intimate (2 to 6 students in my level) and well taught. Tutors were available in the afternoon, to review your lessons or help with any language questions you might have. The two Language Exchange Partners with whom I was paired up with by WLE were excellent. We often met up for dinners and other excursions, giving me the opportunities to converse and learn Chinese outside of the classroom, as well as to get a feel for how locals live.

The WLE administration, before my program started and in Beijing, were very responsive, making the whole process of getting to China and living in China much easier. Any questions or problems that came up were easily solved. In addition, the group dinners and trips organized by WLE were always a blast.

Peter A. Lees - I.T. Consultant, USA

My studies have exceeded my expectations both in terms of the quality of the teaching and the intensity of the course. What is more the atmosphere of the campus and the classroom is highly conducive to learning and I feel that my proficiency in Mandarin is progressing well.

Angus Reid - Investment Banking, UK

Have thoroughly enjoyed both the language and business classes. All the teachers I have had, have really been top class. I have also taken some electives which introduced me to other aspects of this culture. I particularly enjoyed the Singing elective which was great fun and the Hanzi elective which is ideal for those, like me, have never written Chinese before. Also took some additional classes to have an introduction to Wushu which was great fun.

The language course has allowed me to get a grip on the basics of written and spoken Chinese. Learning the vocab and the characters is really hard work and has definitely stretched my memory which hasn't been used much since I left University a few years back! We covered study material that would probably have taken me a year to cover back home. I am indeed very pleased as my first objective of getting a grip on the basics of the language has now been achieved.

The learning of the language has undoubtedly allowed me to get a much better understanding of this fascinating country and its culture. Learning the language has also given me the opportunity to develop some friendships with Chinese students and even local artists!

Eric Cariou - Entrepreneur, France

I like the way the language is taught. The small classes and afternoon tutorials allow me to train the difficult pronunciation of the Chinese language. Besides the classroom training I learned a lot about Chinese culture through my language partner and through my visits of cultural places in Beijing.

Frank Wissbrock - Self-Employed, Germany

WLE's internship program provides an opportunity to work with leading foreign companies in China. Before I arrived in Beijing, my curriculum vitae was sent to Scandinavian Furniture (SF). After my arrival their information was provided to me so I was well prepared. Without World Link's assistance along the way, finding the right employment in my relevant field would not have been that simple. Working for SF not only allowed me to carry out one of my greatest passions in life but simultaneously enriched me with the cultural experiences of working together with Chinese people. Through my colleagues, I have seen and learnt so much about their culture, customs, habits, lifestyle and all this has helped me to better understand China. I was very fortunate to have this "door of opportunity" open to me.

Julie Ma, Australia, Student - Designer

I enjoyed a tremendously positive experience during my stay in China. My language instruction through the academy was very rewarding, but my most enduring memories were the added activities and experiences I had with World Link students and staff. The China Life seminars and excursions were a bonus. From a trip to Xi'an to see the terra cotta army, calligraphy taught by an internationally renowned tutor, to hands-on experience in Chinese cooking, World Link made my stay so much more than just simply a language class. My studies at the academy improved my Chinese, but the added benefits of World Link gave me the opportunities and confidence to put it to use. On a more practical note, the professionalism, dedication, and attention to detail of the World Link staff gave me peace of mind by taking care of a myriad of technical and administrative details. I highly recommend the services of World Link and hope to return in the future.

Marcus Carter, Major, US Air Force

It has always been my dream since I was a child to come to China and study the language and it's culture. It has been more than what I have expected. When I arrived in China I only knew how to say 'Ni Hao', but now I can have very decent conversations in Chinese.

Antonio Reyes - Student, University of Illinois, USA

I have enjoyed my time here in Beijing. If any problems occur, there is the WLE staff to help you. They solve the problems quickly, and do not leave things undone. The program, Language and Martial Arts, was what I expected, even more. There has been nothing to complain about. The teachers, both language and martial arts teachers, are very skillful. Before coming to China, I had a very small idea what Qi Gong is about, but the teachers have made it very clear to me. The atmosphere is very nice here, there are a lot of friendly people around both in the WLE-office and on campus! (Pictured cycling on campus)

Dr Laurent Page, French Language Professor, Lecturer at Pusan Uni., South Korea

Even though my company maintains an office in Beijing, I found the World Link team invaluable in facilitating my Chinese Language studies. Let´s face it - nobody speaks English up there and just getting enrolled in the right class would have been a monumental effort without their help. On top of that the social outings and cultural events added an extra dimension to my time in Beijing that I´ll never forget. I can thoroughly recommend World Link´s values and integrity. What else can I say... Don´t leave home (and go to Beijing) without them´

Gary Sexton, Australia, Vice-president, Asia-Pacific, Symantec Corp.

Doing Business with China for a Swiss Company, I became aware how important the Chinese language and culture is. WLE's well-presented web-page allowed me a first overview of all the possibilities studying in China. My excellent impression on WLE was confirmed by professional and competent staff, giving me all necessary information and help. Being in China with WLE is like being in a big family. Regina Klossner Erlenbach, Switzerland, Product Manager

From WLE you get excellent customer service, the prices of the programs reasonable and affordable. Thumbs up for the teaching; you can't get better anywhere. All the lessons I'm taking (language, martial arts and massage) are excellent! For the students now thinking whether to come or not: Do it, it's definitely worth it! (Left, at the Peking Duck Feast)

Jason You-Tsu Kong, USA, Student, California State University

Without World Link, finding my own way to study in China would have been much more difficult. WLE is perfect for those students wanting to study in China but do not know how to go about doing it. WLE also helped to find me a part-time job teaching English. This has proved to be an added bonus by broadening my experience here. Thanks World Link! Timothy Wang, USA, Engineer

I am very satisfied with the Language program. The teachers teaching methods are good. The sizes of the classes are good, it is important not to have too many students in one class. At first you may think 4 hours a day is too little, but here you realize it's enough because you need to do a lot preparation. Not only the language lessons but also other classes such as Chinese massage and traditional medicine are great. The trips "made" by WLE are great and well organized. WLE staff are wonderful; very nice and friendly. I feel like I'm a part of their family. For those who are for the first time in China, it is good to know there is someone taking care of you.

Dr Savas Tuemis, Germany, Associate Professor, Marmara University

The WLE staff is really friendly and helpful. The WLE program is excellent. We the WLE students have been lucky compared to those who didn't come here by WLE. They have had all kinds of problems, from getting around in the city to finding rooms, etc. The Chinese singing and painting classes are also nice, I wish there were more of them! For the students to come: enjoy your time! (Pictured in front of a statue of Buddha at Longmen Caves, Luoyang)

Claire Saez Co, Canada, Management Trainee

I arrived without speaking a word of Chinese. Simple daily matters were a struggle. In such situations, World Link staff gave me the assistance and guidance I needed. In addition the social events and parties organized by WLE were an excellent way of meeting people. Without World Link, my studying in China would have been twice the hassle and half the fun.
